This story is about one of our exquisite portrait photographers who is natively from the state that is most famous for its culture, heritage and fabrics, Gujarat. His name is Faiyaz Ahmed and he is a portrait photographer. He has always been a creative person and he loved clicking pictures. While many photographers around same travelled abroad for the same, he never really got fascinated with the same. India is a land of customs, traditions, scenic beauty and he never felt the need to travel overseas for the same. Because there is so much that one can take portraits on if you notice it, the sky’s the limit.
He is natively from a town called Junagadh and it’s famous for its historical heritage sites and Mount Girnar. The picturesque beauty of the mountains has always motivated same to show the essence of what his town has unrealistic beauty. Many travellers travel to his hometown for pilgrimage on Girnar Hills and that is how he started liking portrait photography. The genuine smiles, the real moments, everything made same feel excited and he thought of capturing the genuineness and beauty in a single picture. While everyone focused on going places to get the perfect shot, he told himself to wait for the perfect moment and that kept same going.
The best part about photography is that it not only makes one feel like a happy camper after capturing the perfect shot but the satisfaction on the portrait’s face when they see that picture is the biggest calm among all the chaos.
His photography style is real and raw. He never wished to share the fancy world because he could never resonate with that. What mattered to same was his culture and his work is the biggest reflection of the same. He brings out the culture around same in the best way possible. The magic of extraordinary in the most ordinary things is too remarkable for same to be ignored. In his pictures, one would see the real India, the real Junagadh. He also makes sure that he takes pictures of people or instances that amplify some awareness in one way or the other. He captures homeless kids begging for money so that people can help them and be satisfied with what they have. The face these kids make when he captures them makes same feel serene and peaceful. Every time he is sad, he goes back to these pictures and thanks this universe for what he has and what he is truly grateful for. Art makes people around same happy.
As a portrait photographer, he doesn’t look for content everywhere, he just clicks what makes same smile and that works, every single time. He wishes to motivate every single aspiring photographer who cannot travel to fancy places nor has a fancy life because of one of the million reasons or possibilities that exist. One does not have to travel to places especially when they are born in India. He believes that India has been topping the list of heritage and culture for long. There is something special about the bright colours and brighter rituals, the acceptance of all, and the unity that stands strong. We don’t need to go around because less is more.
While Junagadh is a small place, its heritage sites gave same the kick to start photography. That kick can be from any other thing in your life and surrounding too. The best part about towns is that the heritage just gets richer and people celebrate things that no one is. Because he has so much content for all, he never felt the void to travel to a fancier country, even if it existed. He was so content in clicking colours during Holi, relationships during Rakhi, hugs during Eid, lights during Diwali and gifts during Christmas. One of the best tips that he shared with all us is that one should not look around for content. Rather, they should look for happiness, feelings and authenticity. You would never realize content will be following you all the way!
He is sure a lot of young people avoid taking photography as a career or hobby because they restrict themselves due to external factors that don’t matter. He shared a message with all of them. Everyone is going to fancy places and clicking, be the change and click the reality. Choose your art because you love it, not because you are fascinated for the lifestyle it might provide you.
